Discover the works of the internationally lauded and fast-rising star, Modupeola Fadugba.
Curated by SMO Contemporary Art, the ‘Heads Up, Keep Swimming’ art exhibition by Modupeola Fadugba, will open at Temple Muse this weekend in what will be the artist's first solo exhibition in Nigeria.
Educated at Harvard, Fadugba is a talented multimedia artist with degrees in engineering, economics, and education. Her partially burned works depict female synchronized swimmers, sometimes with the shadow of a red ball shimmering through a glistening, underwater landscape.

In recent years, Fadugba’s work has received widespread acclaim in New York, London, and Paris. Her references to feminism, social justice and education have attracted interest from international collectors and art enthusiasts across the world.
Fadugba believes that artists should retain their identity and voice while learning to navigate the sometimes-tempestuous waters of the art world.
Each piece from the exhibition is inspired by the ‘game of life’ and highlights the importance of cooperation and communal values. Fadugba uses her art as a tool to fight for global access to education, especially for girls.
Positive role models for women of colour is also a key theme of Fadugba’s work. In her ‘Heads or Tails’ series, Fadugba used burnt paper coins to highlight the importance of female representation on national symbols.
‘We are delighted to present the amazing works of Modupeola Fadugba for our third exhibition this year, coinciding with the start of the Art X Lagos Weekend’, commented Avinash Wadhwani, Director of Temple Muse, Nigeria’s premiere design platform.
For the exhibition opening her paintings will be exhibited alongside a live performance by synchronized female swimmers from the Ibadan International School.
The exhibition is sponsored by Zircon Marine, Zenith Capital, and Veuve Clicquot, and will run from November 6th – 27th 2017.
