Our Best Moments and Looks From The MET Gala 2023

The Met Gala 2023 was a night to remember, as celebrities from all over the world stepped out in their best ensembles to pay homage to the late, great Karl Lagerfeld. With the theme of Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, the night was all about celebrating the designer's legacy, and attendees did not disappoint.
The best-dressed stars of the night found unique ways to honor Lagerfeld's signature looks, with pearls, bows, and tweeds being among the most popular choices. Here we take you through our best moments and some of the killer looks from the night.

1. THOM BROWNE

Designer Thom Browne made a big impact at the 2023 Met Gala with his black and white designs that paid tribute to fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld. Celebrities such as Jenna Ortega, Olivia Rodrigo, Janelle Monáe, Alexander Skarsgard, Pusha T, Sora Choi, Daniel Ricciardo, Teyana Taylor and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dressed in Browne's creations, which were described as “married together in tailoring… deconstructed and reconstructed.”
Monáe’s oversized Chanel-inspired tweed suit worn over a hoop skirt was a standout, while Rodrigo's black and white silk-and-tweed dress had camellia flowers as a nod to Lagerfeld and Coco Chanel. Browne's designs were also worn by Trevor Noah, Bella Ramsey and Baz Luhrmann.

2. RIHANNA AND ASAP ROCKY

Of course, the most talked-about couple of the night was Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, who arrived in show-stopping ensembles that perfectly captured Lagerfeld's daring and avant-garde aesthetic.

Rihanna wore a heavenly white Valentino look complete with a floral cocoon cape, while A$AP Rocky rocked a Gucci look featuring a black blazer, kilt, and bedazzled jeans. The couple truly embodied the spirit of Lagerfeld and showcased why they are fashion's reigning king and queen.

3. MEN OF THE MET

The men of the Met Gala 2023 also made bold statements with their looks, with Jeremy Pope's extra-long Balmain cape and train featuring a larger-than-life image of Lagerfeld. Puerto Rican superstar, Bad Bunny wore a white, open-back suit by Jacquemus, made using tweed sourced from Maison Lesage, one of the 19 métiers housed in Chanel's 19M,  while Jordan Roth paid tribute to Lagerfeld's signature accessory with a fan-shaped silhouette

4. ANNE HATHAWAY

Anne Hathaway stunned at the Met Gala with Her Versace gown made of white tweed, one of Lagerfeld's favorite fabrics. The strapless dress featured cutouts on the torso that extended into a thigh-high slit, held together with gold safety pins. Hathaway completed the look with matching tweed opera gloves, white platform pumps, and a stunning diamond choker from Bulgari.

5. THE CHANEL ARCHIVE LOOKS

Several attendees at the Met Gala were fortunate enough to wear authentic Chanel designs by Karl Lagerfeld retrieved from the archives. Dua Lipa donned Claudia Schiffer's bridal outfit from the 1993 Chanel show, while Penelope Cruz, a Chanel representative, also showcased a vintage Chanel couture gown from 1988. The long dress in light blue organza features a large shawl collar embroidered with silver sequins, a silver leather belt decorated with pearls, and a Chanel bag.

Margot Robbie wore a replicated 1993 Chanel dress previously worn by Cindy Crawford. Nicole Kidman even flaunted the gown from her Chanel commercial in 2004.

6. INSPIRED BY CHOUPETTE

Doja Cat lived up to her name by dressing up as Karl Lagerfeld's cat Choupette at the Met Gala. She wore an Oscar De La Renta outfit with cat-like eyes and a dramatic ruffled train, along with bizarre cat face prosthetics that included a cat-like nose and mouth and lifted her eyes. She even meowed during her chat on the red carpet.

Lil Nas X's sparkling cat look, created by makeup artist Pat McGrath, took nine hours to complete and was a nod to Lagerfeld's love for felines.

Jared Leto also paid tribute to Choupette but took a different approach, dressing up in a 6ft impersonation of the famous feline. He donned a white furry suit and later changed into an all-black outfit with matching fingerless gloves and a cape with diamond-encrusted shoulder pads.

7. CARDI B

Cardi B stunned at the Met Gala once again, with her outfit following the theme of the night - "in honor of Karl" - a tribute to the late designer Karl Lagerfeld. She wore a striking structured ballgown by Chenpeng Studio with a quilted black skirt covered in sculptural rosettes. Cardi paired the gown with black opera gloves, statement earrings, and a silver-toned bob hairstyle.

Cardi second look of the night consisted of a rosette-covered look. The musician left her hotel ahead of the event in a strapless pink bejeweled gown featuring a plunging neckline and an ornate circular embellishment made of tufted fabric, which rose above her head and covered her back. She added a multi-strand pearl choker necklace, matching multi-strand bracelets, and a hair decoration with a teardrop pearl touching her forehead.

8. FROM NIGERIA TO THE MET

Attending the 2023 Met Gala, Tems and Burna Boy created history as the first Nigerian celebrities to grace the prestigious fashion event. Burna Boy arrived in a specially made regal blue and black ensemble from Burberry, showcasing his Afrobeat style. Tems, who recently made waves at the Oscar Awards with her striking outfit, donned a Robert Wun dress. Her stunning corset dress featured a combination of white and black hues, complemented by a feathered headpiece and elbow-length gloves that matched the top of her strapless number. 

9. MICHAELA COEL

Michaela Coel not only co-chaired but also made a stunning entrance at the 2023 Met Gala. She arrived wearing an alluring Schiaparelli gown that was entirely see-through and embellished with more than 130,000 crystals. The intricate gown took nearly 3,800 hours to create. The actress and screenwriter looked breathtaking as she graced the cream-colored carpet in a brown shimmery sheer gown that had a mock-neck design, long sleeves, and a dramatic train.

The dress's base was adorned with diamonds, pearls, and chains, and included two star-shaped nipple brooches and a diamond collar. Michaela's accessories included oversized gold drop earrings and Schiaparelli's signature gold toe-heels, adding more glamour to the look.
