African-Inspired Elegance
Temple muse is proud to present Boyedoe, an Afro-inspired brand with a focus on creative sustainability. From this Saturday, key pieces from two Boyedoe SS25 collections —Rebuild the Ruins and Out of the Earth—will be available in-store at Temple Muse.
In 2020, David Kusi Boye-Doe could no longer contain a passion that burned fiercely within him for a while, and so he launched the celebrated fashion brand Boyedoe which focuses on re-introducing Africa to the world by taking on often overlooked aspects of the African fashion industry: sustainability and true elegance.
The brand name 'Boyedoe' is a portmanteau of his surname Boye-Doe, which is a reflection of David's pride in his Ghanaian ancestry, from which he draws both inspiration and strength. The brand derives one of its key ideologies from the Twi word "Sankofa" meaning "to retrieve," and represented by a mythical bird that flies forward with his head turned backward. Boyedoe's ethos is deeply rooted in looking to the past not to cast blame, but to devise means by which to forge a better future.
“We use raw edges as a statement of pride in one's history and normally hidden parts"

Sourcing & Sustainability
The brand's commitment to sustainability is not a fashion fad, but rather a fruit of David's deep reverence for the earth and her goodness, as well as a passion for shared communal wellbeing. Having grown up around fashion influences, David admired their output but noticed the extreme wastefulness that underscored many fashion practices. He was determined to change that and present a new way of thinking about fashion especially within the African context.
Challenging Fast Fashion
There is a worrying global trend of fast fashion that focuses on the continuous production of cheap, low-quality clothing items that are non-durable and destined for the land-fill. David noticed that African countries are the primary dumping ground for these fast fashion pieces, and positioned his brand as a direct challenge to that mindset.
The beautiful process of creation for Boyedoe pieces exalts the origins and history of every fashion piece, beginning with the deconstruction of clothing items and ending with their reconstruction into desirable works of creativity. Many Boyedoe pieces feature raw edges, which is a metaphor for celebrating those parts of us that are often tucked away and kept hidden."
Design Process
The Boyedoe design process follows the sequence: deconstruction, processing, sketching, reconstruction, sampling, modification and then the final production of the end design. However, sometimes the creation of an original piece inverts a part of the order, allowing reconstruction to come before sketching so that the art within each piece is liberated without inhibition.
“In creation, we simply let each fabric tell its own story while we seek to recreate that which is discovered”
Boyedoe in Pop Culture
With its emphasis on accentuating that which is uniquely African, especially through the use of traditional fabrics like fugu, Boyedoe is beloved by many conscious fashionistas and has been spotted on continental and global icons like Akin Faminu, Osas Ighodaro, Shatta Wale, Toure Roberts, D-Black and Efya Nocturnal.
Notable Achievements and Exhibitions
In testament to the allure of the brand, Boyedoe has made rapid progress in a short while, gracing many revered stages and runways. Boyedoe was the semi finalists for the Prestigious LVMH PRIZE in 2025; exhibited at Lagos Fashion Week runway show in October 2024, and was selected Among the best of Lagos Fashion Week trunk show by Moda Operandi); made its European debut at Portugal Fashion Week 2023; and has been featured in prominent digital publications like Industrie Africa and Lagos Fashion Week online.
The brand is making its Asian debut in September 2025, showcasing its AW25 line at the Tokyo Fashion Week.
