Rovos Rail has designed a 5 star experience in tailoring a Cape to Cairo journey on board its train: the Pride of Africa. The voyage starts in Cape Town where passengers cross South African winelands to finally head to the north of the continent.
The adventure starts from the Cape of Good Hope and during the 28 day epic journey the steaming locomotive navigates across Western Cape hills, Great Karoo desert, Zimbabwe mountains, Victoria Falls and the Serengeti, finally ending its course in the Valley of the Kings.
More than a travel experience, Cape to Cairo is a unique African odyssey which invites us to cross African borders in a very unique setting.
The voyage gives us the opportunity to explore luxury in a steaming locomotive. It has three types of accommodation on board, the smallest being a Pullman at 76 square feet; the largest being the Royal Suite, which is half a train car and 172 square feet. All types of cabins have an ensuite shower, sink and toilet, whilst The Royal Suite also has a Victorian-style bathtub.
The Cape to Cairo route also allows us to explore a world of gastronomy. Dinner time is announced at the sound of the gong and served with the finest South African wines: Chardonnay, Chiraz and Pinotage give the tone to the gourmet experience.
The African fairytale continues with sightings of the natural wildness of elephants, flamingos, hippos, giraffes, kudus and zebras. Pictures book landscapes are part of the scenery, and at sunset, it is time for passengers to enjoy the comfort of their suites.
