Temple Muse recently hosted an exclusive preview for Modupeola Fadugba's new exhibition, as we celebrate the rising star’s exploration of female identity and representation through her works.
Curated by SMO Contemporary Art, Heads Up, Keep Swimming explores the relationship between women and society, and between communities of women, through depictions of synchronized swimmers and female icons on burnt paper coins. “Together we can go farther. Each individual plays her part to benefit the collective,” explains Fadugba, emphasising the need for female community, within and outside of the art world.
We hosted an exclusive collectors’ preview for selected guests to view her creations, prior to the exhibition opening. Amongst those in attendance were sponsors, representatives and curators from Sotheby’s, Bonham’s, Art 1:54 and the Smithsonian.
Attendees enjoyed a performance from Ibadan International School synchronized swimmers at the Temple Muse poolside, to complement the depiction of synchronized swimming in Fadugba’s work.
Hip-hop artist M.I also collaborated with Fadugba to perform a poem written by the artist for those at the exclusive exhibition preview.
The exhibition is sponsored by Zircon Marine, Zenith Capital, and Veuve Cliquot, and will run from November 6 - 27, 2017.
