Paris rounded off another jam-packed thirty days of the summer fashion week cycle and sadly the end of our vicarious summertime time travel. We’ve spent four weeks day-dreaming about new holiday locations, allowing ‘designer gods’ to seamlessly transport us from garden parties, through to weddings and festivals whilst we carefully plot our sartorial strategy for SS19. As much as we love the autumn/winter fashion cycle at Temple Muse, we literally live (in) for the summer months. Makes sense. So, as the doors close on Paris here’s what we've dreamt we’ll be wearing in the future from each of these cities’ shows:
NEW YORK
Always sets the tone for what our streetwear wardrobe is going to look like and “time-travel” we did to a ‘Back to the Future’ modern day reality. The unshakeable 90’s reigned on (cycling short is fully here to stay) - neon acid colour pops, punchy animal prints and futuristic metallics worked their way across the shows. Rather than the stereotype futuristic blocks, matrix colours were softly draped and easy-to-wear ensuring we’ll all be street ready next summer.
LONDON
Was the perfect follow on from NYC. These two time-travelling sisters are the grungier of Milan and Paris and they just ‘wanna have fun’. We saw bright neon pops, 80’s shoulder pads, denim reimagined...again, the continued exploration of un-conventional silhouettes and oversized full pastel blocked looks, the reluctant nod to Spring.
MILAN
‘The Glamorous Sister’, firmly asserted that when it comes to ‘the sweet life’, even a futuristic one, Italians always do it best. Dolce & Gabbana’s cult winning formula of repeat prints was back - bigger, bolder and better than ever. Vintage shapes and prints were resurrected and modernly reworked, instead of in-your-face metals, the runways were awash with sheer metallic lurex, upscaled ‘Goddard’ silhouettes, Saville Row couture suiting worthy only of the most fashionable of workplaces - it was the perfect mix of high-low street couture rocked with Jagger confidence.
PARIS
The land of ‘Haute-Couture’ never disappoints. Magical collections were sent down runways and we were allowed to dream once again. Like, New York, London and Milan - street trends were acknowledged but expertly upgraded by couture houses from basic attire into beautifully spun garments. The shows were a fantasia of print and texture and we were even treated to an appearance by Fantasia’s own Mickey Mouse at Gucci. No use of our imaginations were needed at Chanel as Lagerfeld made waves sending his 90’s inspired collection down an indoor catwalk beach.
SS19 Final Thought: The future is bright, the future is Disney.
