SS27 Fashion Week Trends to Expect in the Season Ahead

Fashion Month has officially come to a close. Over four weeks, New York, London, Milan and Paris offered their respective visions of Spring/Summer 2027, bringing with them new creative directions, returning names and, perhaps most importantly, a renewed appetite for more expressive fashion.

If there was one thing the season made clear, it is that the era of playing it safe is beginning to feel rather passé. Across the major fashion capitals, designers leaned into stronger colour, sharper silhouettes, exposed lingerie, personality-driven skirts and accessories that demand a second look.

From the runway to the streets outside the shows, here are the trends set to shape the way we dress for Spring/Summer 2027.

PURPLE TAKES THE LEAD

If SS27 had a colour to watch, purple would be a very strong contender. Across the fashion capitals, shades ranging from vivid violet and grape to softer lilac brought a certain theatricality to the season, giving colour a more confident role in the wardrobe.

The appeal lies partly in its range. Deep purple can feel rich and evening-ready, brighter violet brings a modern tone and softer lilac offers a more romantic feel. For SS27, consider purple less as an accent and more as a colour with something to say.

THE SKIRT TAKES CENTRE STAGE

The skirt is having a serious fashion moment. At Prada, it was practically the entire story, with 63 skirts spanning minis, midis, pencil shapes, pleats, embellishment and layered constructions. Gucci, Max Mara, Tod’s and Loro Piana also gave skirts plenty of attention.

From sleek and restrained to sheer, embellished and layered, expect skirts to be more than an alternative to trousers this season. They are the main event.

THE ART OF SHOWING A LITTLE MORE

Though hardly the most conventional wardrobe piece, the bra is making its way into the fashion conversation. Bralettes appeared across London, layered over shirts at Erdem and paired with denim and workwear at Goyagoma, while Prada presented 33 different takes on the style.

In Paris, sheer lace and lingerie-inspired dressing continued the trend, with Saint Laurent bringing transparency into eveningwear.

THE STATEMENT SHOE

If handbags have long been the easiest way to signal a luxury label, SS27 makes a compelling case for looking down. Designers leaned into unusual shapes, embellishment, colour and unexpected details, from Prada’s jewelled slingbacks to Dior’s T-straps and Loewe’s playful designs.

A LITTLE MORE ‘80s, A LOT MORE PERSONALITY

Fashion's nostalgia cycle is moving again. This time, designers are looking beyond the now-familiar references to the ’90s and early 2000s and turning towards the decade of power shoulders, jewel tones, metallics and unapologetic glamour.

It fits neatly into the wider mood of SS27. After years of minimalism, restraint and the dominance of quiet luxury, fashion is making space for clothes with personality again.
