MARCH 1 - 30, 2025
Temple Muse is delighted to host Renaissance Reformed, an exhibition of artworks by Daniel "Pengrapher" Oshundaro, curated by Avinash D. Wadhwani.
In "Renaissance Reformed," Daniel extends a compelling invitation to a deep exploration of identity, materiality and the dynamism of artistic articulation. It bridges classical influences with contemporary expressions, resulting in a profound multimedia body of work.
The exhibition was curated to encourage creativity and a metamorphic journey of self-exploration featuring a collection of works presented via surrealistic and figurative paintings and sculptures. It serves as a reflection of Daniel's individual beliefs, aspirations, and personality–all intricately woven around similitude of his thoughts and experiences as shaped by his surroundings.
The 'Pen Pals' sculptures within this body of work are autobiographical; the artistic rendering of an intensive self-study through the lenses of various cultural landscapes. Titled across a range of revelatory tags, from "Solider" to "Cupid," the limited edition sculptures have all been created without mouths–a representation of the artist's intent to show rather than tell through this profoundly personal collection.
Through this body of work, Daniel is imploring viewers to step into the full experience of living. In his own words, "Don't just read, write. Don't just listen, speak. Don't just take, give. The world is built around mindless, endless, self-consuming consumption. You must resist at all costs or pay the painful price of a life gone by in a flash; a fleeting shadow of who you could've been.
Daniel "Pengrapher" Oshundaro is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist from Oyo State, Nigeria. He blends classical forms with contemporary interpretations, resulting in deeply reverential pieces.
His artistic expressions are currently a commentary on the unique cultural landscapes of life on the planet, and how their exploration results in a transformative experience. In addition to sculptures and surrealistic paintings, he also expresses art via graffiti and creative photography.
