SEPTEMBER 28 - OCTOBER 20, 2024
Temple Muse is delighted to host Subconscious Consciousness, an exhibition of artworks by Gbenga Matthew, curated by Avinash D. Wadhwani.
In "Subconscious Consciousness," Gbenga explores the intricate relationship between the conscious mind and the subconscious. Through vibrant abstract expressionist paintings and immersive installations, he invites viewers to journey into the depths of their psyche, uncovering hidden meanings woven into the fabric of everyday life.
Curated to inspire introspection and emotional engagement, the exhibition features a non-linear arrangement of works, allowing visitors to navigate this subconscious landscape at their own pace. Gbenga's distinctive neo-expressionistic style, characterized by bold colors, gestural brushstrokes, and original symbolic imagery, is further enhanced by three-dimensional installations, creating a visually dynamic and thought-provoking experience.
The urgency and intensity of Gbenga's gestural brushstrokes reflect the tumultuous nature of the subconscious. His paintings often depict fragmented figures, elusive landscapes, and symbolic motifs, inviting viewers to confront their inner thoughts and emotions. Among the standout pieces is "In Love with a Surrealist," which showcases a figure ensnared in a chaotic web of lines and colors, symbolizing the struggle between rational thought and irrational desire—an exploration of the complexities of human relationships.
Through his art, Gbenga emphasizes the profound interconnectedness of awareness and intuition, reminding us of the significant impact our inner lives have on ourselves and those around us. "Subconscious Consciousness" is not just an exhibition; it is an invitation to delve deeper into our emotional landscapes.
